Ordered?

People like to impose order on their surroundings. I suppose that many of us have our own reasons for the order in which we strive to keep things. (Even if just for that one day that we originally set things up.) I read a post on the Design Observer page about ordering books by colour that was very interesting.

So on a slightly different but still relevant topic, I wondered how do all of you out there order your CD's? Alphabetically? By when you bought them? In no order at all? Is there a reason for your obsession or have you never thought about it?

I should do that so I can figure out where my CDs are. My CDs and DVDs are a big mess right now - some in a desk drawer, some in racks, some piled up on a desk.

    Not good.

i keep my cd's ordered by genre and then by theme within the genre. like all of one artist would be together but they might be beside an artist that is similar or that is related. for instance stars would be beside bss and feist... if i had cds by them. and my books are the same. there's actually a logical flow to my books and cd.s. I actually hate alphabetical order because that would put weird stuff together!

In no particular order if I do order them I put the yet to be seen ones on top followed by my favorites and the least favorite ones at the bottom.

I try to orgainze my cds alphabetically, i always have something specific in mind to listen to and i know that if the cds are alphabetical, I can find what i want quicker.

It just makes sense to me to have it that way.

order? what order? :) completely random. I put stuff where there is space...

Having said that however, I know exactly where things are in my little chaos.

    make sense?

i think the guy (john cusack) in high fidelity ordered his records the same as me. it's possible thats where i got the idea...but i think i recall a sense of validation watching that...

so nice to be a category of my own...

My movies are Alphabetical but my CDs are by Genre and in "flip book" thingies. Those are all labeled on the binding with the genre. Within the Genre, alphabetical by artist. Now my iPod is another animal by itself! LOL

playlists are not something that I have ordered in any important way at the moment...

But I did have them in terms of "pumped music" | "relaxing" | "ones I love the most" -- something like that.

Nowadays I simply open up the WMP and just choose or hit random and suprise myself

LOL @ SJ. I do that on my iPod. Just hit random and see where it leads me. It is funny to have OKGO followed by Way Productions though!

I have playlists started but I haven't quite figured out how to work the whole iTunes software yet.
