THERE IS NO SANTA!

I feel I may be voicing an unpopular opinion here but do I really care?

The Situation:
"A blindsided UPN received "a handful" of complaints about the Santa expose on its sitcom." "Parents with young children who happened to watch "Everybody Hates Chris" in the past week had some explaining to do when the character of Rock's brother suddenly told his younger sister that Santa doesn't exist."

On the show, young Tonya becomes a lot more cynical. Her mother explains that Santa Claus is a symbol and asks: "So you do understand?"
"Yeah," the girl replies. "It's OK to lie."

My take:

Give it a freaking rest! We are lying to our children and perhaps it is about the fantasy and magic in the world disappearing. If that was purely the case that would be fine. I wouldn't spend the full 3 hours of LOTR telling my child, "Now remember, Elves don't exist!" But I also would not fill their heads with tales about how Elves and Hobbits and Dark Lords really live in New Zealand either. There is no need for that. Many parents try and forestall the evils of the world and reality of it out of pure fear. So they can keep their child in dream land for as long as possible. There are many emotional reasons to fight what I am saying but again I am not advocating that we sit a child down and explain gang rape and torture, etc. You see many parents do this longing for that better time they remember. News flash! That time never existed. It was a product of fantasy or a misunderstanding of world events. Your local region may have been relatively peaceful but shit still happens everywhere and will continue to. There is no problem in your child understanding what Santa is all about or who he is supposed to be...but when your child gets mad at you for lying, don't go writing angry letters to a TV show for simply telling the truth.

Well hell..I hope this is taken the right way. I am mainly upset at all the parents who got caught with their pants down on this one. Listen, if you let your kid watch these shows and they are so young that Santa to them does exist you may already be contributing to their perceived downfall. What was your young child doing watching this show anyway? (Not that I have seen it but what did they expect? Cutesy animals?)

Kids are samrt they will figure it out themselves and surprise surprise they grow up (most of the time atleast)maybe adults should just leave them alone.
