I am on the Joint Health and Safety Committee for my workplace. (Industrial Manufacturing) Every month I go around and audit different areas for major violations or minor infractions. I also have to investigate accidents or near misses, complaints etc. The more I learn about it the more I see some people's anal tendency to make everything idiot proof.. but also the other side. The "I don't give two shits until someone gets hurt". This is why I am sorta glad that bill C-45 passed into Canadian law this past year making Supervisors responsible for the safety of their workers. Criminally responsible. They can serve jail times or fines that are not payable by the company.
Plus..walking around I see so many little problems all the time. The most common problem is probably from the workers not understanding or even knowing what laws are on their side in the Ontario Health and Safety guide.
Rant? No not really. Probably just information.. and I guess I can't get too detailed about the company I work for. (Well, their problems I mean) But this is a field which highly interests me and is fairly important. It also allows me an opportunity to go above business hierarchies and make them follow the law.
That part is very nice.
