Gitmo results (I hate that short form)

An investigation from the US Military into torture allegations cleared interrogators of any wrongdoings.

They found these items as facts:

"include having a female guard rubbing herself against a prisoner's back and a detainee being smeared with something he was told was mentstrual blood"
- Dose

Again, the report noted that the Geneva Convention did not apply to the Guantanamo prisoners as they are not POWs but are suspected terrorists. (Sexually degrading tactics are prohibited under the Convention)

One thing that I do find rather odd is this line in the story:

"The military investigator's report recommended punishment for the commanding officer of the prison..."

So, we found no wrongdoings BUT the commander should be punished? Sounds like they are trying to appease everyone. (The call for punishment was overturned by the US Military)

The whole "investigation" is just like everything else in my country's government...a dog and pony show.

Why would the Geneva Convention not apply to suspected terrorists? It's not like they've already been convicted is it? I thought the states had a great principle of innocent until proven guilty! Shouldn't that apply to everyone not just the people they think it should apply to? Let me know.

If you read the Geneva Conventions you will find several clauses that could easily be applied to "enemy combatants" or whatever the US is chosing to call them to skirt international laws and signed conventions. The problem is that when you're the biggest dog in the pack you can do as you please until a bigger, tougher dog comes along and puts you in your place. That hasn't happened yet so guys like Furious George can pick and chose which rules to follow and which to ignore.

I know this is not a unique sentiment... but why the hell do we have a United Nations, Geneva Convention etc., if we keep letting the US bend all the rules to their will and to make all their deeds acceptable? This goes beyond George W. And it's so annoying. All is vanity... what the hell.

    Bored now.

One of the main reasons Kristin, I think is because of money.. the US is the largest contributor to the UN's budget.. $440 million (it's 22% of the US's general budget). Without the US's money... the UN wouldn't have any substantial financial backer. Well, that is when the US pays their dues on time...
