I watched a special report on one of the first cases reported, in Viet Nam, and they spoke to a handful of specialists from the UN, etc who were dealing with it. We have reason to be afraid. It is nasty like no Hollywood "outbreak" film. I hope they replay the report, it was seriously troubling.

It's been hyped but 98 deaths are 98 deaths... years from now we are going to find out what exactly happened... till then cook your chicken well.

This is so overblown for now. We have no idea what this virus will do or whether it will make the change to a human virus. Yes, there are deaths, and they occur in closed areas of people working with a high density of sick birds.
I saw the hollywood style outbreak map on the tv, and was pretty disgusted, especially by plans to set up quarenteens around airports. Let's get real. That's the LEAST of our worries. We have natural migrations that can carry this to us in a couple months, no matter WHAT we do. we can't build a net over the whole country. The smart thing to do would be to plan for the possibility of spread and illness, without all the sensationalism.
We might end up with a lot of dead birds, but we don't know that there will be a corresponding human death toll.
