No Internet

This week has been slow on the posting front as my computer cannot connect to the Sympatico servers. I am using my roommates Mac right now.. it is very different to use this machine but for one thing..I like the on screen font better!

I didn't even realize I could have signed on to this computer until today. Yet, I am glad that I wasn't able to go online. Ever lose your cellphone for more than a couple of days? Or had your internet go down for a period of time? I find it is always interesting, (after the initial frustrating period) to be forced into a loss that you didn't know you would miss. (when not about a person or actual NEEDED item) I don't think of myself as an addict of the 'net' yet I suppose it distracts me throughout my day in little doses...that still can add up over time.

Hmm. I get out, I see people, I do things, I am out a lot. Yet, with this thing gone for now I am getting a lot more done it seems.

But maybe people felt the same way when the telephone was invented.. but would we take it back? Yes it could be better to see each other face to face.. but it does give you 'more time' in many ways!?

but msn is so cool, in that it's free to talk to people far away... like my mom, and my buddy jacqueline in BC... right? its not like i have the option of going for a coffee with jac whenever i feel like it... or going to my mom's place, you know?

so yeah. being a techie isn't so bad.

I love the internet but I know for a fact that I can live without it. I totally agree with you Kris, nothing beats being able to talk to relatives and childhood friends across the world for FREE and even hear their voices and see them (webcam). I remember when I would have to mail letters and it would take 10 days to get a response. Now dont get me wrong a written letter is always special but not practical... I love the net and when I am somewhere without it, I got to a cyber cafe at least twice a week!

I get sent to places with no internet by work - client sites. Oh, does that ever suck. Then I wonder if connecting via dial-up alleviates the suffering, or makes it worse as I wait for things to slowly get downloaded.

    Dial up... *shudder*

Krupo I think it makes it worse!

--I remember though being on the 5000 range baud modems back in Scarborough during highschool..thinking not in terms of speed but just marvelling that it happens at all! (That quickly changed though as they came out with 28.8kbps modems.. and the game changed to be about speed)
