Genocide

"Human rights and chemical weapons use aside, in many respects our political and economic interests run parallel with those of Iraq."
- "Overview of US-Iraq Relations and Political Pressure Points"
- White house and State Department Internal Memoranda

This was being written while Iraq was gassing the Kurds. In other words, putting aside the genocide being committed Iraq and the US are pretty much alike.

Refugees from Darfur(Sudan) say that following air raids by government aircraft, the Janjaweed ride into villages on horses and camels, slaughtering men, raping women and stealing whatever they can find.

"Some 1.6 million people have left their homes" (displaced also = genocide) "and about 70,000 are estimated to have been killed." - BBC News

"Human rights groups, the US Congress and US Secretary of State Colin Powell say that genocide is taking place." - BBC News

"Lots of aid agencies are working in Darfur but they say they have not been given enough money by the international community." - BBC News

"The British Government has said it sees no point in declaring the situation in
Darfur to be genocide. Ministers have claimed that such a declaration would add
nothing to the UK s current actions." - Jubilee Campaign (UK)

Under the 1949 Geneva Convention Against Genocide any country that names genocide for what it is must then act to prevent and to protect and subsequently bring to justice those who commit crimes against humanity (Article 51 of the UN Charter).
"Now, with respect to Darfur, yes, it is a genocide. And months ago, many of us were pressing for action." and "But I'll tell you this, as president, if it took American forces to some degree to coalesce the African Union, I'd be prepared to do it because we could never allow another Rwanda.

It's the moral responsibility for us and the world."
- Senator John Kerry - Transcript of Presidential debate.09/30/04

"In terms of Darfur, I agree it's genocide. And Colin Powell so stated.

We have committed $200 million worth of aid. We're the leading donor in the world to help the suffering people there. We will commit more over time to help." and "I agree with my opponent that we shouldn't be committing troops. We ought to be working with the African Union to do so -- precisely what we did in Liberia. We helped stabilize the situation with some troops, and when the African Union came, we moved them out."
-President Bush - Transcript of Presidential debate.09/30/04

...and still they do nothing.
