Ukraine
I am so deeply proud at this moment. Right now, approx. 8 hours ahead of me in time, I have a bud in the Ukraine. He went over to monitor the 2nd round elections going on as part of the 1st Canada Corps after applying with Canadem. He went to Ottawa last Friday and spent 2 days there being briefed and getting paper work done. Then after flying to Kiev he spent time in the city, getting to know it and the people and other things I can't wait for him to tell me. He mentioned the protests happening in and around tent city in Kiev but not that they were violent ones at all. He mentioned the slowness of life there and how it almost makes a North American mind wonder how they get things done.. tongue firmly planted in cheek.
The polls should close in about 1 more hour, we have gotten sporadic messages from him. He was sent to Odessa, (on the Black Sea) and has been to a few polling stations at this time. I can't wait for him to return to let us know how this all went. We are all so proud of Jay.. his father offered a toast to him over Christmas dinner last night. It was quiet for a second, some thoughtful looking, others beaming as we all then toasted him.
I sent him another email telling him all that happened last night and that our thoughts and prayers are with him. Man.. it would be so cool to go..
